Balancing Our Emotions With Reiki Healing
Using Reiki To Heal Our Emotions
Reiki being a holistic healing technique can not only help to heal us on a physical, mental and spiritual level, but it can also help you to heal on an emotional level.
There are days when it seems emotions move from one extreme to another, flip-flopping back and forth. You can receive upsetting news about a family member’s declining health and feel concerned and sad. Within a few hours, you’re informed of a promotion at work, coming with a large raise. Then, you receive a phone call from the school that your son is not doing well in math – but he is exceptional in science. It feels like your nerves, and your blood pressure, have risen and fallen throughout the day. It can feel like an Emotional roller coaster and has been described as the usual ups and downs of Life. If you know about Reiki, have been trained in Reiki or have received a Reiki session, you will know of it's many healing attributes, especially for emotional healing. Or if you are new to Reiki, here are some of it's healing potential on our emotional wellbeing and some Reiki insights as a practising Reiki Master for over 20 years.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect.
It's use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that if we all practice and receive Reiki it will help to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.
The Importance Of Emotional Wellbeing and a Positive Mindset When It Comes To Your Bodies Health:
The source or cause of health comes from the Chi (which is the Sankrit -Indian Language for energy which is vital energy) that flows through and around the individual rather than from the functional condition of the physical organs and tissues. If the flow of Chi is disrupted, through everyday stress, anger, frustration, environmental stress, emotional issues, poor diet and lifestyle, the physical organs and tissues will be adversely affected. Therefore, it is a disruption in the flow of Chi that is the main cause of illnesses and life issues. An important attribute of Chi is that it responds to our thoughts and feelings. Chi will flow more strongly or be weakened in its actions depending on the quality of one's thoughts and feelings. It is our negative thoughts and feelings that are the main cause of restriction in the flow of Chi. All negative or dis-harmonious thoughts or feelings will cause a disruption in the flow of Chi. Even Western medicine recognises the role played by the mind in creating illness and some Western doctors state that as much as 98% of illness is caused directly or indirectly by the mind. It must be understood that the mind exists not only in the brain but also throughout the body. The nervous system extends to every organ and tissue in the body and so the mind exists here also. It is also known that the mind even extends outside the body in a subtle energy field 2 to 3 feet thick called the aura. Because of this, it is more appropriate to call our mind a mind/body as the mind and body are so closely linked. Therefore, our negative thoughts are not just in the brain, but also collect in various locations throughout the body and in the aura. The places where negative thoughts and feelings collect is where Chi is restricted in its flow. The physical organs that exist at these locations are restricted in their functioning. If the negative thoughts and feelings are not eliminated quickly, illnesses and health issues can result. The negative thoughts and feelings that are lodged in the unconscious mind/body are the greatest problem as we are not aware of them and therefore, are we are greatly hampered in changing or eliminating them. The great value of Reiki is that because it is guided by the Higher Intelligence, it knows exactly where to go and how to respond to restrictions in the flow of Chi. It can work directly in the unconscious parts of the mind/body which contain negative Chi-inhibiting thoughts and feelings and eliminate them. As Reiki flows through, it breaks up and washes away any negative thoughts or feelings lodged in the unconscious mind/body thus allowing a normal healthy flow of Chi to resume. As this happens, the unhealthy physical organs and tissues become properly nourished with Chi and begin functioning in a balanced healthy way thus replacing illness with health. That is why Reiki healing energy can be so beneficial on all levels, especially when it comes to our emotions and how we feel and think on a day-to-day basis.
Intense Emotional Feelings and Thoughts And How We Can Improve Them For Our Own Health and Wellbeing:
There are days when it seems emotions move from one extreme to another, flip-flopping back and forth. You can receive upsetting news about a family member’s declining health and feel concerned and sad. Within a few hours, you’re informed of a promotion at work, coming with a large raise. Then, you receive a phone call from the school that your son is not doing well in math – but he is exceptional in science. It feels like your nerves, and your blood pressure, have risen and fallen throughout the day. Emotional roller coasters have been described as the usual ups and downs of Life. Actually, it’s not an emotional roller coaster unless we ALLOW it to be. Remember, it took us many years to establish and connect to the ‘social thought patterns and conditioning’ that we’ve been imbued with throughout our Lifetimes.
We were taught (conditioned) to feel, think, and do things in a way that is appropriate for the good of all humanity, or so our ancestors thought. We were conditioned to act, think, and behave in a way that is both pleasing and appropriate of us as human beings. We create all emotions inside of us and there is a reason behind all our emotions and how we feel. We can change that, by knowing what we feel, where this emotion coming from, is it coming from a place of fear, uncertainty? When we allow ourselves to feel each emotion, and to contemplate each emotion individually, we are doing ourselves a huge favour! CHANGE takes TIME … those nasty wounds aren’t going to heal overnight! It’s been years since some of them have been accessed, and years more since we acquired the appropriate coping mechanisms to deal with such powerful bursts of energy. That’s what emotions are: Energy. Pure and Simple. Whenever you hear the term ‘emotion’ you simply need to imagine the energy behind each one. Behind the force of anger, there is a massive amount of emotional energy. Pain is the basis of the terrifying and sometimes destructive emotion of anger. Everything that can be destroyed can be constructed. That is the main point to remember: Sometimes, the Destruction of an entity may result in the construction of something more sublime. We need to learn to accept rather than judge our emotions if we are to reconcile them to simply being part of the human condition.
Take the emotion of anger, for instance. "I allow myself to feel anger, allow the anger to BE, love and accept the anger just as it is and try not to judge it". I don’t attempt to change or thwart it. I simply let it BE. Perhaps I can learn something from my own anger:
Where is it coming from?
Is it part of feeling envious, ignored, second-guessed?
Is it simply there because it is attempting to mask a more deep-seated painful memory?
Is it a reaction to something that has been said in the moment?
When I allow myself to process the emotional responses (energy) that my body harbours, I become even more in tune with each emotional response. Then, I use one of the powerful Reiki healing symbols to help heal it. Also, adding a positive affirmation to the mix helps immensely. For instance, suddenly I feel anxiety and anger arising in my gut. I mentally ask myself:
Where is this emotion coming from?
Why is it coming up for me?
If I can answer one or both questions right then and there, I’m golden. Otherwise, I simply acknowledge that I’m feeling angry or agitated or anxious, and I state to myself: “All is right in my world at this moment in time” or simply “All is right in my world”. Affirmations such as these have kept me going for years, and are actually a source of inspiration and freedom for me. If we learn to harness the power of positive affirmations, and combine them with powerful, healing Reiki Energy, we can change our Life! The next time a powerful emotion is threatening to take you over, face it head on and bless it with Reiki. In blessing it and acknowledging it, you can literally change it. And by infusing Cho Ku Rei or another powerful Reiki symbol into that emotion you can change it completely into Love. Try it!
Reiki is the great equaliser. It helps us to find that calm place when events from the outside world are bouncing all around us. During a client’s session a few months ago, I was blessed with a vision about her energy level. The vision was that she was walking through a storm, with leaves, branches and assorted pieces of trash swirling around her. But, no items touched her and she was not affected by the blowing winds. It was like she was living within a zone of peacefulness, not affected at all by the outside world. Her energy was calm and quiet. When I described this scene to her, she laughed, stating it depicted her current situation well. Even though there was chaos in her workplace, and sad events in her family circle, she had set the intention to bring a sense of serenity to the people in her life, and to her environment. She maintained this balance through Reiki self-treatments and meditative practices. The reason she scheduled the session with me was to be able to relax into Reiki, not thinking about anything at all. She simply wanted to absorb the healing energies, to assist her further in staying calm. We talked about how Reiki can be utilised to find balance in all aspects of our lives. She talked about the process of how she reached this peaceful plateau – the steps she had taken to build and maintain this zone of peacefulness. While it is as simple as awareness, intention and action, there were times when she would “slip” out of the zone and join in the atmosphere of anxiety created within herself and by the people around her. Again, she had to become aware of her emotions, set the intention and take action. In her case, she would use self-Reiki to find the calmness again and return to the zone. It sounds so easy! But, it’s not always easy.
The first step, - awareness, can be the most difficult one, as we get caught up in the drama of an event. We can get swept up in the emotions of it – whether it is sadness, frustration, anger, or not knowing what to do. Learning to identify our emotions, and dealing with them, are the key ingredients. Reiki can help us to build awareness of our thoughts and beliefs which then affect our emotional responses. One of the great lessons of living within the awareness of Universal Life Force Energy is there is always an abundance of support and unconditional love. As we become more and more connected to this Energy, there is a wonderful effect of finding this zone of peacefulness – and living there most of the time. What a beautiful blessing Reiki is!
